About the Speaker

Julie Cart is a graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University and has a post-graduate diploma from the Caribbean Institute of Mass Communications in Kingston, Jamaica. She has worked for United Press International in Phoenix, Arizona and as a general assignment reporter for the Arizona Republic. Cart joined the Los Angeles Times in 1983 as a sportswriter and went on to serve as a national correspondent in the paper's Denver Bureau. In 2002, she became an environmental reporter in Los Angeles, covering public lands, natural resources and land-use policy. In 2009, along with colleague Bettina Boxall, Cart won a Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Journalism for a five-part series on the growing menace of wildfires in the American West.
