Why biologists need more math

Biology notoriously lags behind the other natural sciences inintegration of formal mathematical theory with experiment. There are two main reasons for this. First, most biology students don't think they like math and don't recognise how powerful it is. Second, college biology curricula typically require little math -- rarely more than a year of calculus, if that. These barriers are easily overcome. In this talk, I'll try to convince you that it is worth the effort -- in fact it is necessary -- to overcome them.
