Research Interests

Avian migration has been suggested to be under genetic control, yet the genes underlying migration are unknown. I am interested in integrating phenotypic and transcriptomic data of the Swainson’s thrush, Catharus ustulatus, to identify and characterize genes involved in avian migration. This species is an ideal system for my research because it affords the opportunity to compare genetically distinct subspecies with drastically different migratory strategies.
