Sustainable & Fair Housing - the Intersection of Affordable Housing, Green Building, and Neighborhood Development

Hosted by the U.S. Green Building Council-Los Angeles Chapter

Join us for our quarterly meeting featuring a networking breakfast, sustainable think tank discussion on the issues that surround affordable and fair housing, and a tour of Rio Vista, a new mixed-use project. LAUSD and Adobe Communities teamed up to create 50 unites of family housing, a shared parking structure and community space, and an on-site early education center that is operated by the school district.

LEED for Neighborhood Development integrates the principles of smart growth, new urbanism and green building, while benefiting communities by reducing urban sprawl, increasing transportation choices and decreasing automobile dependence, encouraging healthy living, and protecting threatened species. The 2012 USGBC Afforable Green Neighborhoods Grant Program has just been announced, made possible by a $500,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, awards $25,000 cash and educational resources to affordable housing who are committed to building sustainable communities through the LEED for Neighborhood.
