It is with great pleasure that the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability releases its first Annual Report. This Annual Report describes some of the tremendous work that LARC is leading and fostering over the last year.

Highlights from the Annual Report:

  • LARC is hard at work on A Greater L.A.: The Framework for Regional Climate Action and Sustainability. This critical project will address regional sustainability issues and offer strategies to adapt to climate change and work towards sustainable growth in Los Angeles. The Framework is based on two phenomenal projects of regional benefit:
    • A county-wide, community-wide greenhouse gas emissions inventory, supported by the County of Los Angeles, is underway and heading to completion. This will serve as the basis for reducing the county’s carbon footprint.
    • An advanced simulation of future climate change in Greater Los Angeles, supported by the City of Los Angeles and conducted by UCLA climate scientists, will provide the most scientifically-advanced account of climate change available for adaptation planning of any region in the world.
  • The publication of the “Regional Landscape Review of Climate Programs and Policies”, a region-wide summary of climate related programs, commissioned by LARC and written by Adi Liberman and Associates.
  • Critical research currently being performed by several of LARC’s members, including an analysis of urban metabolism and life-cycle energy use of transportation systems in the region at UCLA as well as sea level rise adaptation planning at USC.

LARC is the regional forum for collaboration on climate change and sustainability efforts. LARC brings together leaders from local governments, non-profits, universities, and businesses to share best practices, coordinate strategy, and enrich our knowledge base in order to lead the nation in climate action.

LARC welcomes new members and sponsors, and would love to have new participants involved. For more information, please visit the membership page. Please forward this Annual Report to any colleagues who may be interested.
