The L.A. Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability is crafting a county-wide climate action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare the region to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Known as "A Greater L.A.: the Framework for Regional Climate Action and Sustainability," this effort is a multi-year process to integrate numerous county-wide and jurisdiction specific efforts with best practices and model ordinances that ensure a resilient and vibrant future for our communities. Visit the Framework page to learn more.
Many cities in the region have written climate action plans for their jurisdictions, many of these can be found on the Resources page of this site. The regional climate action plan is intended to integrate all of these, and more regional efforts, to create a unifying effort that will allow individual cities, communities, and agencies to implement their own appropriate sustainability efforts. It will incorporate many other regional efforts. This Framework will embody action-oriented strategies, model ordinances, coordinated planning, cutting-edge science, inclusiveness, and measurable objectives to produce sustainable communities.
The process of producing the Framework is key to its success. This Framework will involve the development of a cross-jurisdictional, action-oriented, pragmatic, innovative, inclusive, and successful Regional Framework. By providing best practices and coordination for the entire County, this Plan will also allow economically disadvantaged communities to benefit from coordinated planning, inclusion in strategy and Plan development, and reinvestment in order to meet the Plan’s sustainable community goals.
LARC is committed to facilitating critical information sharing between cities, agencies, the private sector, academia, non-profits, and other sources of regional expertise. To accomplish this, LARC has close relationships with other regional organizations. LARC supports and sponsors collaborative workshops, grant applications, and interactions between individual entities to share information.
This website will grow into a substantial source of regional information about sustainability and climate change activities and policies. As the site is built out, most of the regional reports, resources, and analyses that have been conducted will be available on the Reports and Resources page.
LARC hosts quarterly public meetings on topics in climate change and sustainability. These Quarterly Meetings are hosted by different members and not only provide an update on regional activities, but also offer the opportunity to learn more about a particular subject that can be applied in diverse Southern California communities. For more information on Quarterly Meetings, please visit the Meetings page.
LARC serves as a centralizing force for coordinating regional strategies and efforts around climate action. Specific projects, grant opportunities, and coordination activities can be organized or supported by LARC. Please contact us or attend a LARC meeting to learn more about how to contribute and utilize the regional resources that LARC can access.
