IoES welcomes Fullbright International Scholar

Cardona Castillo holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Economics by Louisiana State University, a Master’s degree in Hydraulic Resources, a Master’s in Agricultural Economics and a Master’s degree in Environmental Planning and Management. He's served as a Visiting Professor, among others, at Louisiana State University, The University of Calgary in Canada, the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain and the University of Antwerp in Belgium.

Under the sponsorship of the Latin American and Caribbean Environmental Economics Program, he has recently conducted a research project on the effects of decentralization on the environment in Guatemala and the Central American Region. His findings relate local decision makers’ attitudes towards the environment, with actual decision making. Studying the underlying factors that build up environmental attitude would help to develop policy tools that could make decision making, at the local level, more environmentally friendly: while at the same time allowing for local economies to grow in a sustainable manner.

Cardona Castillo will be at UCLA through the end of May 2011.
