Designing Healthy Communities

Dr. Richard Jackson, chair of the department of Environmental Health Sciences and professor at the IoES, is the host of a new Media & Policy Center documentary about public health and the built environment.

Designing Healthy Communities

What you are about to see could literally save your life as we trace links between our growing national health crisis and many unhealthy city and suburban design decisions. We're going to meet people in communities who struggle with these decisions. We will see how some are correcting past mistakes with stunning results—transformations that you can apply to your own neighborhood.

"Making Healthy Places: Designing and Building for Health, Well-being, and Sustainability," edited by Andrew L. Dannenberg, Howard Frumkin, and Richard J. Jackson, and published by Island Press, will be available on August 4, 2011. To learn more about this textbook click here.
