Nearly 6,800 incoming freshmen and transfer students were deployed to 27 locations throughout Los Angeles for UCLA’s third annual Volunteer Day held on Sept. 20, 2011. An additional 660 staff members, faculty, alumni, upperclassmen, and other volunteers helped organize and oversee the effort. Project sites included Will Rogers State Historic Park, Griffith Park, Vista Hermosa Natural Park, and Topanga State Park. At the parks volunteers painted fences, did trail maintenance and restoration, and invasive plant removal. The goal of this annual event is to make UCLA a national leader in volunteerism and encourage UCLA students, faculty, staff, and alumni to make a lifelong commitment to helping their community.
