Randa Fouad
Speaker Biography
She directed a nationwide media initiative in Egypt called “Dialogue for Development: Media and the Culture of Democracy” in cooperation with USAID, Al Ahram Regional Press Institute, Faculty of Mass Communication and Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University.
Randa participates on the international stage as well. She is a member of the Arab International Women Forum (AIWF) based in the UK, and of Egypt’s International Economic Forum (EIEF) based in Cairo. She is also a member of the Board of Editors of the Urban Age Magazine, a World Bank Publication based in Washington, and of the International Federation of Environmental Journalists (IFEJ) based in France.
Ms. Fouad was the force behind the establishment of media NGOs in the Arab world; spearheaded the establishment of a regional media forum linking these NGOs, the Arab Media Forum for Environment and Development (AMFED); and played a lead role in linking the forum to global media networks. ), that “seeks to empower, enable, and encourage the Arab media to address development issues through dialogue among media practitioners and other sectors of society, using a participatory approach, in order to build the capacity of the media to provide citizens with fair and balanced information on development issues in order to make responsible and informed choices.”
