Event Sustainability Volunteer Program
The UCLA Event Sustainability Committee and the UCLA Events Office are very pleased to announce the Event Sustainability Volunteer Program, a new and exciting volunteer activity for your Registered Campus Organization.
Photo Credit: flickr DonnaGraysonIn keeping with the University’s efforts to make our campus more sustainable, we are putting together a series of programs designed to “green” our campus events.
The Event Sustainability Volunteer Program invites volunteers to participate in campus events and to assist the event guests in the distribution of their waste into the appropriate recycling containers for proper disposal. In many cases, volunteers will serve a shift of approximately an hour and a half and be invited to enjoy the food and entertainment free of charge following their duties. After completing a certain number of events, volunteers will be invited to join us at such large events as Parents Weekend, the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, Spring Sing, and the Jazz Reggae Festival.
Participants in the Event Sustainability Volunteer Program will be entered in a database and notified each time that a new event opportunity becomes available. Shifts will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Volunteers will go through a short training program designed to help them become familiar with sustainable techniques and current information.
This is an exciting opportunity to see event planning in action and play an important role is UCLA’s efforts to become more environmentally friendly. We hope that you will seize this opportunity to become a founding member of this significant campus effort.
