Explore UCLA's Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden
South Campus boasts the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design building, the famous Inverted Fountain, and a beautiful hub of biodiversity measuring seven acres - The Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden (MEMBG). MEMBG is a little piece of paradise within a 410 acre concrete jungle campus. Over 4,000 species of flora from around the world reside inside. MEMBG started in 1929, shortly after the University began classes in Westwood. In 1979 the facility was renamed to honor accomplished horticulturalist Dr. Mathias, who served as the Garden’s director for almost two decades. Take a peek at this living museum and plan a future visit.
