Baldwin Lake gets the paleo treatment
Big Bear Grizzly highlighted research on the paleoclimatic history of Southern California by IoES Director Glen MacDonald and Department of Geography doctoral candidate Katie Glover.

UCLA geography professor Glen MacDonald points to a tube filled with sediment taken from 50 feet below the surface of Baldwin Lake. The sample varies in color from a light brown to a dry gray powder. “That’s environmental change right in front of you,” he says.
MacDonald is in Big Bear along with several graduate students to take part in core sampling in Baldwin Lake. Valley residents may have noticed the drilling truck in the middle of the dry-lake bed Aug. 6 and 7.
