Umbrellabird Study Featured in Ecuadorian Newspaper

The Ecuadorian newspaper, El Comercio, featured a story on May 10, 2009 based on a study of the Long-wattled Umbrellabird that is being conducted by Dr. Jordan Karubian, the Latin America Director for the Institute of the Environment's Center for Tropical Research, in the Choco rainforest in Ecuador.

The El Comercio article featured the first professional photographs of the umbrellabird, taken by El Comercio photographer Murray Cooper. The story, printed in Spanish, describes the umbrellabirds mating behavior, its important role in the forest as a seed disperser, and local efforts to promote conservation of the umbrellabird.
