Roundtable discussion about Barriers to Sustainability Programs in Higher Education

University of California's Matthew St. Clair moderated a roundtable discussion with sustainability managers from campuses across the country about the evolution of their jobs and how best to climb the ladder to success in sustainability.

Abstract from: Rountable: Shattering the Glass Ceiling.  Overcoming Barriers to Sustainability Programs in Higher Education

Forget the glass ceiling; some sustainability directors in academia are brushing their heads against green ones. Whether struggling to promote sustainability within facilities or pushing the subject from the academic side, sustainability directors might encounter frustration, delay, or sheer indifference as they strive to gain recognition, foster awareness, and achieve
real change in campus practices. Sustainability: The Journal of Record brought together sustainability managers from a cross section of universities (Ivy League, state schools, big ones, small ones) to talk about the evolution of their jobs, how best to climb the ladder to success in sustainability, and whether proximity to a university president is a prerequisite for real
change. Excerpts from the conversation follow.
