A new gift will enable the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability to continue efforts to address climate change in L.A.
LARC Members: Glen MacDonald, Desiree Portillo Rabinov, Elliott Hubbard, Ben Saltzman, Stephanie Pincetl, Beth Jines, Amir Tabakh, and Scot Wiles. An $80,000 donation from an anonymous foundation will enable the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability (LARC) to hire more staff and further fundraising initiatives. LARC is administered by University scientists intent on addressing climate change issues throughout the Los Angeles region. Institute of the Environment Urban Center for People and the Environment Director Stephanie Pincetl is part of the group which includes UCLA's Paul Bunje, Director of the IoE Center for Climate Change Solutions, Alex Hall, professor of atmospheric and oceanic sciences and Glen MacDonald, IoE Director. In partnership with L.A. county city representatives, transportation agencies, clean air groups and other organizations the group is spearheading a regional climate plan. LARC will analyze water use, land use and energy to determine what needs to change.
Pincetl stated, "What we're doing here is a completely novel collaborative, getting all of these jurisdictions working toward a common goal. This is an extraordinary opportunity to change how we do things in California."
