Sled Dogs: A breed of their own

In a Science Now article Professor Robert Wayne comments on a genetics study that concludes sled dogs represent their own breed.

The conclusion that sled dogs represent their own breed is unexpected, said Robert Wayne, ecology and evolutionary biology professor and researcher with the Institute of the Environment Center for Tropical Research . "It was a bit of a surprise to find that they're distinct from everything else." The work, he notes, should lead the way to finding genes behind a variety of behaviors in these dogs, like the willingness to pull a sled.
