The World in 2050
IoES Affiliate Professor Laurence C. Smith discusses his newest publication with Patt Morrsion on KPCC 89.3 FM.
Professor Smith in IcelandWhat will the planet and society be like in 40 years? According to geoscientist and Guggenheim fellow Laurence C. Smith, analysis should be based on four global forces: demography, natural resources, globalization, and climate change. The population is projected to reach 9 billion by 2050, which will require much more resources than the earth currently provides. The world economy is becoming more and more interdependent and connected, and temperatures will continue to rise. All of this considered, Smith makes many predictions, but one of his key hypotheses is that the world will make a large expansion Northward. Want a glimpse of your future? Listen as Patt sits down with Laurence Smith to discuss his forecast of the future.
