Multiple Causes of Woolly Mammoth Extinction
The October issue of Discover magazine reports on research by Glen MacDonald, director of UCLA's Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and a professor of geography and of ecology and evolutionary biology, that found that woolly mammoths succumbed to a lethal combination of climate warming, encroaching humans and habitat change between 4,000 and 10,000 years ago. 'California' Journal Focuses on Water
LA Observed highlighted on the fall issue of Boom: A Journal of California, which aims to make the best ideas of UC academics accessible to the general public. The journal is edited by Jon Christensen, adjunct assistant professor of history and a member of the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, and the issue includes a piece by Glenn MacDonald, director of the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and a professor of geography and of ecology and evolutionary biology. Regulation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
School of Law and IoES Professor and Emmett Center on Climate Change and the Environment Faculty Director Ann Carlson was interviewed on "Living on Earth" about the EPA's revised proposed regulations for greenhouse gas emissions from new power plants.

Humans and Climate Change
Alex Hall, associate professor of atmospheric and oceanic sciences and director of the Center for Climate Change Solutions at UCLA's Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, was interviewed on American Public Media's "Marketplace" about a new report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change indicating that it is "extremely likely" that humans are responsible for global warming.
