Neighborhood Disparities in Air Pollution
The Los Angeles Times reported on a study led by Suzanne Paulson, professor of atmospheric and oceanic sciences and a member of UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, that looked at several neighborhoods in Los Angeles and found striking disparities in levels of transit-related air pollution. KCRW-89 FM’s “Which Way, L.A.,” LA Weekly, Curbed LA, and the Imperial Valley News also reported on the study. UCLA Takes on ‘Grand Challenge’
KPCC-89.3 FM highlighted UCLA’s major new environmental research project aimed at making Los Angeles a global model for sustainability. Mark Gold, adjunct professor and associate director of UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability, was interviewed. UCLA Ranked Among ‘Best Value’ Colleges
Ohio’s Columbus Dispatch and Sacramento’s KTXL-Channel 40 reported that UCLA has been ranked No. 5 among the 100 best-value public colleges and universities in the U.S. in Kiplinger’s annual “top value” colleges survey.
Sudden Threats of Climate Change
Domain-b highlighted a National Academy of Sciences report by leading climate scholars, including Laurence C. Smith, professor and chair of the UCLA Department of Geography, calling for the creation of an early warning system to better anticipate the more sudden and potentially calamitous impacts of climate change.
