Mike leads the research and monitoring staff at the Council. His research there focuses on holistic watershed assessment, including as project manager and principle investigator of the Department of Water Resources funded Ecosystem Values of Watersheds in Southern California project. Mike is also the foremost expert with US Department of Interior Bureau of Reclamation Los Angeles Basin Groundwater Augmentation Model. Other project work includes geospatial modeling for stormwater capture feasibility, internship coordination, and supervising staff who manage watershed-wide water quality monitoring, green infrastructure demonstration installation and monitoring, as well as disadvantaged community outreach research.
Mike has a background in geography and GIS, with emphases on the urban form and human-nature relationships. He is a PhD student in the UCLA Department of Geography, co-advised by Drs. John Agnew and Glen MacDonald. He is a member of the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability Water Resources Group. Mike also sits on the advisory board at the Center for Geographic Studies at Cal State Northridge Department of Geography.
