Born and raised in Southern California’s San Fernando Valley, Karen has enjoyed living in a lovely, subtropical Mediterranean climate her entire life. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Radio-TV-Film from California State University, Northridge and a Master’s degree in Communication Management from the University of Southern California. Karen worked as a freelance writer for many years, contributing copy to print and online publications. An affection for the college atmosphere led to a career in higher education. As the Institute’s Communications Officer Karen assists the Director, manages the organization’s official website and social media sites, creates bi-annual newsletters, provides support for public relations and development initiatives, and participates in event planning. The environmental issues she is most passionate about are biodiversity preservation and conservation and environmental health sciences/public health.
