In addition to her work with the La Kretz Center, a majority of Carol’s time is devoted to the UCLA Stunt Ranch Santa Monica Mountains Reserve. She serves the Reserve as Director of Education and Outreach, working with faculty, students, and campus administrators to promote and facilitate research and instruction in the Santa Monica Mountains; she also partners on behalf of UCLA and the Reserve with varied environmental agencies, organizations and legislative offices in the interests of education and conservation. Carol serves the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden at UCLA as the docent program coordinator and is a founding member of the Santa Monica Mountains Education Consortium. She has served, first as board member and now as associate board member, the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains and writes quarterly “Green Team Tips” for two non-profits in Santa Monica. From 2001 to 2007 Carol wrote the column, “Drawing from Nature: science/art lessons for kids,” for the Los Angeles Times Kids’ Reading Room Page. And wrote, “Carol’s Corner,” a column in the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden’s newsletter from 1997 though 2009.
