Watching our Waste at UCLA
In an effort to reduce UCLA's carbon footprint, a group of students calling themselves Waste Watchers are working to decrease the amount of food wasted in campus dining halls.
The students, who also make up a for-credit Action Research Team on campus, regularly collect and measure food waste in the dining halls and are using that information to begin educating fellow students on the need to reduce waste and funnel resources to more organic and sustainable food choices.
This group's work is one example of student involvement in UCLA's climate action plan, which predicts UCLA is on track to reduce its emissions to 1990 levels by 2012, eight years earlier than previously anticipated.
